Weddell Seal (Leptonychotes weddellii) is a relatively large and abundant "true seal" found throughout Antarctica. True seals or earless seals are one of the three main groups of mammals within the seal superfamily Pinnipedia. Wendell seals, the most studied of Antarctic seals, have the most southerly distribution of any mammal extending as far south as McMurdo Sound at 77° S.
